June, 2003. Microsoft changed the storage world on that date. They announced iSCSI driver support for all present and future versions of all Microsoft operating systems. You go to their website and download the driver. This converts any PC into an iSCSI client and allows real, block level storage over your LAN at speeds that are double or better NAS solutions, like those from Network Appliance.

Microsoft also put tens of millions of their dollars into a major certification, education and promotion campaign to support iSCSI.
